Puerto Rico - San Juan

At every port which we hit along the 73 day journey, we are joined by a pilot. This, of course, is mandatory and is specifically required to insure that we actually do NOT hit every port along the journey.... but, rather, are eased gently into it, by the pilot.... Arriving just outside San Juan harbor, we were met by the pilot boat carrying our pilot who would steer us safely to our berth.

We did three ports in the Caribbean - so this next one is San Juan, which has always been one of my favorites.

Over the last 15 or so years, I guess I've been in San Juan 12 or so times - 4 years ago I spent some time there - I think a couple weeks - part, with my friend Wendy.

Renting a car and being on land is nice, as opposed to stopping with a cruise ship which means its only a daystop, so, recently there have been 10 or 11 day stops and only one longer stop.

Maybe this year I'll spend a couple weeks down there again. I really do love the island - I could live in Old San Juan (N O T new San Juan) and also, I'm very fond of Ponce on the south coast, the Rincon/Muyaguez area on the west coast and the rugged and remote mountain countryside through the center of the island.

So, this is a glimpse of this year's stop, plus some pictures of the rainforest and mountain El Yunque, where I've been many times, and where many of my fellow travelers went during this stop, but where, unfortunately, I did not go this time.
